Green Kindred is a home and garden idea site for people who want spaces that look good and still work on a normal Tuesday. We cover the rooms inside your house and the ground around it, from a cramped galley kitchen to a sloped backyard, and we write every guide with real budgets, real square footage and real maintenance in mind.
The name says what we care about. Green for the gardens, plants and outdoor spaces that make a home feel alive. Kindred for the idea that a home should feel like it belongs to the people living in it, not to a showroom.
What we cover
Our content is organized the way you actually tackle a project, one space at a time:
- Room Ideas – kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms, living rooms, dining rooms, kids’ rooms, home offices and entryways, with layouts, color palettes, storage and lighting that fit different sizes and budgets.
- Home Decor – interior styles, accent walls and paint colors, fireplaces, ceilings, floors, window treatments and everyday organization.
- Home Exterior – curb appeal, front porches, front doors, siding colors and driveways.
- Outdoor Living – patios, decks, pergolas, pools, fire pits and small backyards that work hard. A good place to start is our guide to backyard patio ideas.
- Landscaping Ideas – front and backyard landscaping, walkways, fences and edging, like our backyard landscaping ideas and brick garden edging guides.
- Garden Ideas – flower beds, container gardens, ponds and planting plans, including budget small garden ideas and cactus gardens.
- Seasonal Decor – spring, summer and fall refreshes, holiday tables and simple ways to entertain at home.
Meet our editor
Olivia Parker leads the editorial work at Green Kindred, planning, writing and reviewing our home and garden guides. She is drawn to ideas that survive everyday life: rooms that are easy to clean, gardens that don’t collapse after one missed watering, and projects that don’t need a contractor for every step.
When Olivia puts a guide together, she starts with the problem a reader is trying to solve, whether that’s a dark hallway, a narrow side yard or a front porch that needs more curb appeal, and then looks for options that fit different budgets, climates and skill levels. She would rather give you three ideas you can actually use than thirty you can only admire.
How we create our content
Design ideas are subjective, but the facts behind them shouldn’t be. Every guide on Green Kindred follows the same standards:
We check the practical details
Before we recommend a plant, material or layout, we check how it performs in real conditions: sun and shade needs, hardiness zones, water requirements, durability, cleaning and upkeep. For plant and landscaping advice we rely on established horticultural references such as the USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map and university cooperative extension services.
We are honest about cost and effort
When an idea is expensive, time-consuming or hard to maintain, we say so. Where it helps, we point out cheaper alternatives and which parts you can do yourself.
We flag safety and when to call a pro
Some projects involve electrical work, gas lines, structural changes, drainage or large trees. For those, we clearly note that a licensed professional should handle the job and that local codes and permits may apply.
We keep guides up to date
Trends, products and best practices change. We review and update our articles regularly, and each guide shows when it was last updated.
Transparency
Green Kindred is independently run. We may earn money through display advertising and, in some articles, affiliate links. If a post contains affiliate links, we disclose it clearly, and it never changes what we recommend. We don’t accept payment in exchange for positive coverage. Images are either our own, licensed, or credited to their creators.
Spotted a mistake? We take accuracy seriously. If something in one of our guides is wrong or out of date, please let us know and we will review it and correct it promptly.
